What do you do when you post on your social networks and all you hear is crickets? What can you do to interact with those people who pushed the “like” or “follow” button on your page? Believe it or not, not the same thing works for every company; each audience is different. If you feel lost and don’t know what to do to get a response, here are some ideas to break the ice and get your networks interactive.

Research
I use that term loosely because in more relaxed settings it can be known as Facebook stalking; however, in this setting we can call it research. Research your followers and fans. Find out what they like, what they talk about and what they are interested in.

Talk
The best way to make noise on social networks is to start making noise. Start talking to people and you will be able to learn what other’s are saying, thinking about and listening too. This can help build a relationship with your followers as well.

Test out new stuff
If you post the same stuff everyday and are not getting a response from it, try something new. Try a few different types of posts and see which ones get the best responses. Try some informational, some silly, some funny and some casual comments. What you need to understand is whether your followers want to be informed or entertained when they get on the Internet and how they go about getting that.

Keep it Simple
If you have ever personally used a social network you know what people like and don’t like to see on their home feeds. Remember what you like to see and try and post using what you know as a user.

Don’t just sit on twitter having a conversation with yourself. Don’t let your social networks die because you can’t find anything to post. There are some things you can do to figure out what will work with your audience and what won’t. The key is to not feel helpless and spend some time re-adjusting and re-evaluating what needs to be done.
